Support Organisations for Learners Affected by the Safety of Rwanda Act
The recently passed Safety of Rwanda Act may make some learners in our ESOL community increasingly vulnerable. Several organisations support those who may be affected by the new legislation, and you may have already seen advice on what to do if someone you know is at risk. To support our community, we have collated a list of organisations for help:
- JCWI Explainer by The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants explains what we know so far about the Act, what to do, and who to contact.
- Right to Remain https://righttoremain.org.uk/
- Hold webinars and post comprehensive overviews of the immigration system on their website
- Describe what happens if someone doesn't go and sign at the Home Office reporting centre when they are supposed to https://righttoremain.org.uk/immigration-bail-reporting-the-basics/
- Care 4 Calais https://care4calais.org/
- Have an Access Team of specially trained volunteers who help vulnerable asylum seekers organise to gain legal support
- Provide a downloadable information leaflet, translated into several languages, on their website for those who may have received an official letter regarding the Act
- Migrants Organise have collated a list of resources and how to take action https://www.migrantsorganise.org/we-keep-each-other-safe-rwanda-resources-and-actions/
- Detention Action https://detentionaction.org.uk/ is a group of volunteers who visit people in immigration detention centres
- NATECLA, as the professional association and forum for teachers of English and other community languages to adults, have released a useful response to the new legislation https://www.natecla.org.uk/news/1047/NATECLAs-response-to-the-Rwanda-Plan
We hope the information shared by the above organisations helps anyone affected by the new legislation in our ESOL community receive the support needed.
