Environmental Sustainability

With the theme of this year's National Conference focussing on education for a sustainable future, we are committed to making steps towards reducing our impact on the environment.

Planting Trees: We have planted a tree with the National Trust for every delegate booking made. When we plant a tree it contributes to reducing emissions and creating new habitats for wildlife such as the red squirrel and the greater spotted woodpecker as well as many other birds and animals.

Reducing paper usage: This year our delegate information is online, there are no printed slides or paper packs. Your agenda is printed on eco-friendly wildflower seed paper which is made from old clothes and textile industry waste. Please feel free to plant this and send us your photos!

IHG Green Engage: The Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury uses the IHG Green Engage system. From reducing single-use plastics to energy-efficient lighting, the venue has been chosen as they share our commitment to reducing environmental impact.

Encouraging delegates to walk: We encourage our delegates to do part of the journey today on foot. Did you know that walking a mile and a half would release 75% less greenhouse gases than what would be produced from driving the same distance? Before you book a taxi to the train station, bear in mind that a walk to London Euston is just half a mile!

Supporting Eden Project: The travel mugs in your gift bag are from the fantastic Eden Project store. By supporting the Eden Project we are collectively helping them continue to deliver transformational projects which change people’s lives for the better.

Flower pencil: The pencil in your goodie bag contains a biodegradable capsule with seeds inside. These could be basil, evening primrose & a variety of other flowers. To plant your seed flower pencil, insert a maximum of 1 cm into the soil without removing the green capsule. The capsule will dissolve on its own, simply wait for the plant to grow.

“We have been delighted with the impact Ascentis Extended Awards in Mathematical Skills (Stepping Stones) have had on our student’s progression towards their functional skills mathematics as well as preparing them for the completion of their GCSE. It has taught them the essential skills in mathematics which enabled them to deal with the practical problems and challenges of life – at home, in education and at work. These skills are valued by employers and further education, and are a platform on which to build other employability skills. We are also very impressed with the level of service and commitment shown by the staff of Ascentis, they are always available to help whenever help is needed.”
