We pride ourselves on using subject expert in both the development of our qualifications and in our Quality Assurance of them.
We feel it is vital to have someone to support and guide you who has the experience and knowledge of the subject, both as part of the service to you and also to ensure standardisation across the country for these qualifications.
Free Internal Quality Assurance and Assessor Courses
Any member of staff who internally verifies Ascentis qualifications is entitled to attend one of our free Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) courses. These are held throughout the academic year in various locations and also by webinar. Delegates will be guided through Ascentis paperwork and procedures, preparing for an external verification and what is to be expected. Successful completion of the IQA course can count towards your internal verifier being granted Direct Claims Status by Ascentis.
Quality Assurance Events
To ensure standardisation across centres we hold free Regional Quality Meetings for suites such as ESOL and Education and Training. These are facilitated by our subject expert External Quality Assurers and attended by tutors and coordinators of the relevant qualifications. These meetings give an invaluable opportunity to network with other practitioners, share best practice, see exemplar materials, and focus on standardisation. We also hold free subject specific Quality Assurance Webinars for suites such as English, Maths, Short Online Qualifications, Construction, Community Interpreting and Progression. For our Access to Higher Education providers we have Curriculum and Standardisation Meetings.
Having listened to feedback from our centres we understand that one of your main priorities is having any queries dealt with quickly and efficiently by a designated contact. We ensure that all centre coordinators have named contacts at Ascentis to help with any queries, as well as your designated External Quality Assurer. We also have dedicated Development Managers and Quality Assurance Managers for all qualification areas, and each centre has a Customer Support Assistant to ensure the smooth running of your Ascentis experience.
We want to ensure that our qualifications are easy to deliver, using methods most appropriate to the type of qualification. Our Short Online Qualifications come with online resources which the learner can work through at their own pace and then complete an online multiple choice assessment. This allows centres to run these qualifications in large numbers, contribute towards FELTAG targets and all with minimal teaching hours required. There are also resources available for our Education and Training suite, and we are committed to developing video resources for ESOL and Community Interpreting showing exemplar assessments. Appropriate Assessment Methods
Ascentis works with providers, subject experts and relevant skills sectors when developing our qualifications. One of the most important elements is getting the assessment methods right for the learner and tutor, and appropriate for progression post-qualification. This means ensuring that the method allows the learner to demonstrate their full ability without external pressures, but also insisting on the appropriate conditions relative to the qualification and level. We must also take into account the skill being tested, and ensure that an appropriate medium is used, and that the method does not rely upon other skills, such as IT.
No Minimum Registrations
There are no minimum registration requirements with Ascentis for any qualifications. This allows small cohorts, individual learners, or indeed we will assist you if you have an incredibly large cohort of learners! Either way there are no penalties or restrictions.
It is important that tutors spend as much of their time teaching as possible, and at Ascentis we do everything we can to take away the administrative burden that so many providers face. Where assessments are internally marked and verified, we keep paperwork to a minimum whilst still being prudent. Registering learners is easily done through our online portal QuartzWeb, which is also used to claim certificates. For our Access to Higher Education providers, all registration, results and moderation activities are logged through QuartzWeb, which not only minimises paperwork but facilitates the tracking of learner progress throughout the year.
